A recent Fox News article, “When the ‘Harvard of Christian Schools’ Goes Woke,” details what is happening at Wheaton College. The school’s “woke” actions include banning biblical words such as “service” (due to how such a word “may invoke power dynamics across socio-economic, racial, and cultural lines”) and “mankind.” This article didn’t surprise me in the least!
The opinion article states,
Wheaton College is often called the ‘Harvard of Christian Schools’ due to its academic rigor being relatively comparable to the Ivy League titan. Its graduates of note range from Billy Graham to Dan Coates, former Director of National Intelligence and U.S. senator.
But recently, the school in the leafy suburb west of Chicago has begun to mimic Harvard’s wokeness. Banning biblical words, teaching critical race theory, and psychologizing gender identity issues may not seem extreme in modern academia. But for a school which houses the works of Rev. Graham, C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, it is adrift from its orthodox, Christian moorings. But this isn’t a recent drift.
Over the years, we at Answers in Genesis have warned many times that when a Christian institution compromises God’s Word in Genesis, this will eventually put it on a slippery slide of unbelief in regard to the rest of Scripture and Christian doctrine.
Wheaton College (like so many other supposed Christian institutions) has compromised God’s Word in Genesis for a long time. This college also became soft on the LGBTQ issue and other social issues and now is being impacted (not surprisingly) by the woke culture.
Nearly 10 years ago, I wrote this in an article about Wheaton College (a college that has produced a science textbook teaching evolution and millions of years as fact):
Over the years, we’ve been warning the church that so many Christian colleges have been compromising God’s Word in Genesis—and we’ve been warning that such compromise will eventually lead to apostasy.
And I still believe that! Once a person or institution takes man’s ideas from outside Scripture and uses them to reinterpret God’s clear Word in the Bible, this unlocks a door to undermine biblical authority and begin the slippery slide of unbelief.
This should be a warning to parents. Remember, what happens to these institutions happens to most of the students who attend them as they are indoctrinated in compromise on God’s Word and increasingly in woke philosophy.
Any school that can’t be trusted to uphold the solid foundations and the traditions upon which it was built can’t be trusted to uphold anything. Disloyalty will be their trademark since it’s all about “me, myself, and I”.
The ‘wokeness” is nothing but socio-political smoke and mirrors which don’t address the human condition and solve nothing. To discontinue using the word “service” also means discontinuing the word “disservice”, which is what they are doing with nothing but self-glorifying virtue-signaling.
Their lack of self-awareness, their vainglorious narcissism, will be their undoing as well as those of others.
