It is very sad that this God-fearing bishop was attacked in his own place of worship by Islamic savages for preaching the good news Gospel of salvation to his congregation and that he lost an eye as a result. Our hearts go out to him.
It’s also remarkable that he forgave his barbarian attacker in keeping with his faith, and remarkable it is to us who may not be so forgiving. I’m not sure that I would be so forgiving, but I’m not a preacher.
We may observe that he may have witnessed even greater atrocities committed in his native Iraq. And that many of our soldiers in Iraq also suffered greater atrocities which he may have also witnessed. When compared to the savagery of war, his injury may seem small to him.
Then again, if that’s not the case, then he has heroic virtue.
Those of us who haven’t seen such ravages. or who lack such virtue, are probably not prepared to be so forgiving.
