Prayer: The Big Lie of Relativism in the American Church

“You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” (John 8:32)

Jesus taught that there is only one way to eternal life: “I am the way and the truth and the life..No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6), therefore, ““Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)

Moreover, Jesus validated His truth claim through the immutable fact of His resurrection. Through His resurrection He “demonstrated that He does not stand in a line of peers with Buddha, Muhammad, or any other founder of a world religion. They died and are still dead, but Christ is risen.” (1) Only Jesus lives, for only He has the power to lay down His life and to take it up again. 

However, for many years now, relativism has been overshadowing our homeland, corrupting our courts, government, schools, universities, and even creeping into much of the American church from the RCC to Evangelical Protestant, and to Orthodox.

According to the Big Lie of relativism, there is no immutable truth since every man, woman, and child has his or her own truth, so that, “What’s true for you is true for you, and what’s true for me is true for me” and “it all depends on what your definition of is, is.“

The Lie goes on to say that as there is no objective standard of truth, there is no living, personal God of absolute Goodness and Truth, making Jesus Christ a liar. Furthermore, as there is no God of absolute, unchanging Goodness and Truth, there is no absolute moral law, making the Ten Commandments null and void and good and evil the changeable opinions of autonomous humans.

Under the dark cloud of relativism, America and the West have become crooked mirror images of the days of Noah:

“Barbarism is that which prevailed from the days of Adam down through ten generations to the time of Noah. It is called barbarism because of the fact that in those times men had no ruling authority or mutual accord, but every man was independent and a law unto himself after the dictates of his own will.” (John of Damascus, “The Fount of Knowledge,” cited in Political Apocalypse, Ellis Sandoz, p. 131)

Pre-flood barbarism was an anarchy of the inner evil of mankind–of pride, self-centeredness, selfishness, greed, envy, hatred, vindictiveness and relativism–in accord with Nietzsche’s philosophy of relativism, “You have your way, I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, it does not exist.” Thus, the animating spirit of both pre-flood and post-flood relativism here in America and the American church is “there is no fear of God before their eyes,” (Rom. 3:18) and “they do not love the Truth” (2 Thes. 2:10).

According to Collin Garbarino, author of “Moral Relativists in the University: They Aren’t Who You Think They Are,” young conservatives arriving on campus are as morally relative as liberals. While a liberal faculty certainly promotes the idea that “good” is a relative term defined by the individual and the only “bad” is to infringe on another person’s ability to express their own version of “good,” the battle for conservatism was lost long before students ever met their first college professor. In my experience, said Garbarino, freshmen arrive on campus as moral relativists. (The Aquila Report, August 24, 2014)

Relativism is a satanic lie from hell every Christian and church must face because it is the quick sand foundation for the lack of unchanging truth and morality animating our post-Christian culture.

Let us pray:

“Cut off my lips from all rashness and lying, both inwardly and outwardly. Let your Scripture be my pure delight. Let me not be deceived in them, nor deceive from them. Lord, listen and pity me! Lord my God, Light of the blind, strength of the weak…listen to my soul and hear it crying from the depths. Augustine’s Confessions 11:3

Lord Jesus, the freely made choices of Your church and its people have not been leading them into Your Light and Truth but ever deeper into the darkness and blindness of lies , chaos, and lostness. They have been listening to the seductive whispers of our enemy instead of the truth in Your Scripture. Little by little they have traded Your Truth for ideologies, deceptions, and lies. Instead of confessing their sins they have allowed them to grow uncontrollably like noxious weeds. Now they are lost, Father God.

Lord, You have promised that if we repent and confess our sin, You will forgive us and make our hearts clean again. Lord, Your people truly need Your forgiveness and cleansing of hearts!. Just as You spoke and created the world out of nothing, please Lord, let it be Your Will to create a clean heart out of the meaninglessness of their relativism. Purify their hearts and light up their souls with Your holy presence, Your Light, and Your Truth. Sanctify them in Your Truth and in Your Word, O Lord. Lead them home to You.

May the God of goodness, peace, truth, and light, sanctify us wholly; and may our spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; to whom be glory forever.
