It was during the days of Noah that certain high ranking angels came down from their first estate, meaning the 3rd heaven. They came down into the space/time dimension or world of man through something like an astral gate that opened onto the top of Mt. Hermon. Azazel was the name of one of the leaders.
After the flood, Azazel or another evil Power of that name, made himself known to mankind as the goat-headed demon. Throughout the ancient world Azazel was also known and worshipped as Pan, the Goat of Mendes, Ba’al, Siva, the All Seeing Eye, various Sun gods, and in our own time, Baphomet/Lucifer.
In Aleister Crowley’s explanation of the etymology of the name Baphomet, taken from one of his most important works, Magick Liber ABA, Book 4, Crowley describes Baphomet (Satan) as the divine androgyne.
Symbolically, Azazel/Baphomet represents the Cosmo and/or Divine One Substance, Void, Abyss, and Quantum Void worshipped by both ancient nature worshippers and their modern materialist and pantheist contemporaries. The serpent powered Ouroboros (the serpent biting its tail) symbolizes the oneness and totality of the Divine One Substance, meaning there is only the cosmos and no 3rd heaven. Just out of curiosity, I recall that the most recent commonly known name for Satan was Beelzebub.
That Satan has been a pretty slick conniver and thief, yes? After he stole God’s property- Adam and Eve- with lies, he set himself to deceiving their descendants with more lies about what the knowledge of good and evil actually was. He convinced some that good and evil were the same thing and he convinced others that good and evil were their opposites. Added to that, he throws in the idea that they can be gods too.
That’s what Satan does, being lawless. He takes God’s good laws, jumbles them up, and presents them to Man to make Man lost and unresponsive to God.
His job is to keep Man in the darkness and away from The Light. Those who have the Light of Life Who Is Jesus Christ can see that Satan’s death-dealing efforts have been quite successful lately.
