  1. Pastor Mac Arthur describes very well the truths about what a follower of Christ is and what he/she is expected to do. I’d call it Christianity 101, since it’s fundamental. No pastor should ever neglect to teach and preach this to his flock.
There are probably too many churches, however, not doing that, churches of lukewarm faith, neither hot nor cold, which is who Pastor MacArthur is addressing. They’re likely looking for the approval and acceptance of a largely politicized secular World which won’t accept truths of any kind and those churches’s message becomes one that “tickles the ears” of their hearers only. They may follow the rubrics but omit the truthful content. Those churches really need to get back into Christianity 101.
Still, while we can’t be saved by our own actions, there is still a lot to be gained from communal prayer because Jesus said, “Where two or more are gathered in my Name, there am I”. There are more truths after Christianity 101, I’d say.

  2. Speaking of rubrics without truthful content, it was Jesus Himself who taught us what Truth is. It wasn’t just Pilate asking, “What is truth?”, the Pharisees didn’t know it either, they just had their rubrics. ( perhaps there’s a better word than ‘rubrics? )
Those who heard His words of Truth became His followers, while those who didn’t became his persecutors.
